2021 Riviera Wine Company Pinot Noir
Doug Margerum has been involved in the Santa Barbara food and wine scene for over 35 years. He owned Wine Cask which was a Wine Spectator Grand Award restaurant and wine store. He launched the Santa Barbara Wine Futures program which brought recognition to the region and launched now famous brands like Sea Smoke, Brewer-Clifton, Paul Lato, Tensely and many more. Doug has consulted for numerous wineries throughout the region and at Chêne-Bleu in France. With years of winemaking and blending expertise, he launched Riviera Wine Company in 2020 taking advantage of his access to grapes from exclusive vineyards to create blends that showcase the best of the area. The goal being to deliver great value premium wines. Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Region: Central Coast, Edna Valley Vintage: We had a cool spring and mild summer temperatures that extended the growing season making it one of the longest growing seasons on record for us. Harvest began in the fall allowing for increased flavors due to hang time. The weather was mild, and we had a long timeframe in which to carefully pick for optimal flavors. Yields were slightly above average, but the weather cooperated permitting us to have pronounced flavors and aromatics. We are very happy with the quality of the wine and the “numbers” (pH, TA, Alc.) are perfect resulting in very balanced wines. Color: Beautiful saturated dark red crimson color. Aroma: Complex array of cranberry, pomegranate, and mulberries mix with red tropical flowers and earthy elements of dried herbs, sandalwood, vanilla and toast. Palate: Concentrated fruit impressions with great mouthfeel. Red fruit compote and dried herbs mix with a medley of earthy notes of dried roses, red candy, spice, cocoa and cherries.
